Mainly based on Japanese mythology, Iwami Kagura dances with gorgeous costumes and sacred and rich facial expressions to the lively drum music and the sound of a melancholy flute. It is a traditional performing art. There are about 30 types of performances, from "ritual dance" that welcomes the gods to "kagura noh" that is based on Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. Currently, it has been highly evaluated not only in Japan but also overseas, and in 2019 it was registered as a Japanese heritage site. This video introduces the Iwami Kagura Preservation Society Kushiro Shrine (Masuda City), which boasts a history of 170 years.
Holding time: Every year from September to November (dedication at a shrine) * In addition to dedication kagura, you can enjoy regular night kagura performances and competitions throughout the year in the Iwami region.
